The Official

TYPTI Rules

These rules govern all TYPTI games and competitions under the World Typti Federation.

01

The Game of TYPTI

  • TYPTI is a fast-paced racket sport combining elements of tennis and pickleball while creating its own unique style of play.
  • Played on a pickleball-size court using an approved TYPTI racket and TYPTI ball.
  • The objective is simple: hit the ball over the net and win the rally.
  • Designed to be easy to learn, exciting to play, and competitive at every level—from beginners and recreational players to professional competition.
02

Equipment

  • TYPTI Racket — players must use an approved TYPTI racket in World Typti Federation-sanctioned competition.
  • TYPTI Ball — official competition must use an approved TYPTI ball, specifically designed for the sport and not to be referred to as a pickleball.
  • Court — TYPTI is played on a standard pickleball-size court with a regulation net.
03

Scoring

  • TYPTI uses rally scoring.
  • Every rally results in a point, regardless of which player or team served.
  • The player or team that wins the rally receives the point and serves the next rally.
  • The official scoring format may vary by tournament or event. Tournament organizers must publish the scoring format before competition begins.
04

Serving

  • The server must begin the rally from behind the designated baseline.
  • The serve must travel over the net and land in the opponent's proper service area.
  • A serve that does not land in the correct service area is a fault.
  • The receiving player or team must allow the ball to bounce before returning the serve.
05

The Rally

  • After the serve and required return, players may hit the ball before or after it bounces, according to the official TYPTI rules.
  • Players may move anywhere on their side of the court during a rally.
  • Players may enter the non-volley/kitchen area during play.
  • The objective is to keep the ball in play while creating an opportunity to win the rally.
06

The Kitchen / Non-Volley Zone

  • Players are permitted to step into the kitchen during a rally.
  • A player may hit the ball while positioned inside the kitchen.
  • Players must follow the TYPTI rules governing volleys and contact within the kitchen.
07

Ball Contact

  • The ball may be returned using the racket or other permitted parts of the player or equipment as defined by the official TYPTI rules.
  • A player may not intentionally catch, carry, or throw the ball.
  • The ball must be struck cleanly.
  • Only one intentional contact is permitted per return unless specifically allowed under an official TYPTI rule.
08

Net Play

  • The ball must travel over the net and into the opponent's court.
  • A ball that touches the net and legally lands in the opponent's court remains in play.
  • Players may not intentionally interfere with the opponent's ability to play the ball.
09

Faults

  • The ball lands outside the court.
  • The ball does not cross the net, or is hit into the net and does not legally cross.
  • The serve is illegal, or a player violates a serving or court-position rule.
  • A player intentionally interferes with an opponent.
  • The rally ends when a fault occurs, and the opposing player or team receives the point.
10

Singles

  • Singles is played with one player on each side of the court.
  • Players are responsible for covering their entire side of the court.
  • Every rally results in a point.
11

Doubles

  • Doubles is played with two players on each side of the court.
  • Partners may move freely and communicate during the rally, provided they do not interfere with play.
  • Every rally results in a point.
12

Let

  • A let may be called when an unforeseen situation interferes with play or when the official rules require the rally to be replayed.
  • When a let is called, the rally is replayed and no point is awarded.
13

Player Conduct

  • All players are expected to demonstrate sportsmanship, respect opponents and officials, and maintain the integrity of the game.
  • Abusive or threatening behavior, intentional interference, and verbal abuse are not tolerated.
  • Unsportsmanlike conduct, damage to equipment or facilities, and disrespect toward officials, opponents, or spectators may result in a warning, penalty, loss of rally, or removal from competition.
14

Officials

  • Tournament officials are responsible for enforcing the official rules of TYPTI.
  • Players must respect official decisions during competition.
  • A tournament director or referee may make decisions regarding situations not specifically covered by these rules while maintaining the spirit and integrity of the sport.
15

Approved Competition Equipment

  • Only equipment approved by the World Typti Federation may be used in sanctioned TYPTI tournaments.
  • The Federation may establish equipment specifications and an approval process for TYPTI rackets, TYPTI balls, nets, and other competition equipment.
16

Sanctioned Tournaments

  • All World Typti Federation-sanctioned tournaments must follow the official rules and competition standards established by the Federation.
  • Tournament organizers must clearly communicate event format, scoring format, match format, divisions, schedule, equipment requirements, and tournament-specific regulations.
